KefiZone 1.5 S is a combination of Cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and Sulbactam, a β-lactamase inhibitor. This combination enhances antibacterial efficacy by overcoming resistance mechanisms in β-lactamase-producing bacteria. It is designed for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens.

Indications:

KefiZone 1.5 S is used in the treatment of a wide range of serious bacterial infections, including:

  1. Respiratory Tract Infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis.
  2. Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Complicated and recurrent infections.
  3. Intra-Abdominal Infections: Peritonitis, cholangitis.
  4. Septicemia: Bloodstream infections.
  5. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Cellulitis, abscesses, diabetic foot infections.
  6. Bone and Joint Infections: Osteomyelitis, septic arthritis.
  7. Gynecological Infections: Pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis.
  8. Surgical Prophylaxis: Prevents infections during and after surgery.

Benefits:

  1. Enhanced Activity: Sulbactam protects Cefoperazone from degradation by β-lactamase enzymes, extending its spectrum of action.
  2. Broad Spectrum: Effective against gram-positive, gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria.
  3. Dual Mechanism: Combines bactericidal action (Cefoperazone) with enzyme inhibition (Sulbactam) for optimal efficacy.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Route: Intravenous (IV) or Intramuscular (IM) injection.
  • Typical Dosage:
    • Adults: 1.5 g every 12 hours (adjustable based on infection severity and patient condition).
    • Dosage for pediatric patients should be determined by the physician.

Storage Instructions:

  • Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture.
  • Use the prepared solution immediately to avoid contamination.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Precautions:

  1. Allergies: Contraindicated in patients with known allergies to cephalosporins or penicillins.
  2. Renal and Hepatic Impairment: Adjust dosage under medical supervision for patients with kidney or liver dysfunction.
  3. Bleeding Disorders: Use cautiously, as Cefoperazone may affect coagulation.
  4. Pregnancy and Lactation: Consult a healthcare professional before use.
  5. Drug Interactions:
    • Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 72 hours after the last dose, as it may cause disulfiram-like reactions.
    • Inform the doctor of concurrent medications to prevent interactions.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain at the injection site.
  • Less Common: Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling), headache, fever.
  • Rare: Blood disorders, severe hypersensitivity reactions, pseudomembranous colitis (seek immediate medical attention).

Note:

KefiZone 1.5 S is a prescription medication administered under the supervision of healthcare professionals. Adherence to the prescribed dosage and schedule is crucial to ensure its effectiveness and reduce the risk of resistance.
